Michael Murphy of The Celebrity Café website reports on Swedish director Niels Arden Oplev’s activities as he fills out cast for his new, English-language feature.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo excitement has slowed substantially since the end of Oscar season, but those who were fans of the original Swedish version of the first installment in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy should find the upcoming film, Dead Man Down, rather interesting. Swedish director Niels Arden Oplev is helming the new English-language feature which currently stars Colin Farrell (In Bruges, Total Recall) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and now Variety has learned that Terrence Howard (Iron Man, Hustle & Flow) has just been added to the film’s roster as the villain.
Oplev’s film centers around a charming, though brutal, crimelord (Howard) who murders a man’s (Farrell) family, only to find the man returns to sabotage the crimelord’s business from within. Rapace plays “a mysterious, scarred beauty” who has an in-depth knowledge of Farrell’s character’s past. A few days ago, Collider posted that Dominic Cooper (The Devil’s Double) had been added to the cast as Farrell’s character’s partner, and now Howard nicely rounds out the cast as production for the revenge thriller nears.
